Written comments regarding the proposed permit will be accepted until 30 days after the publish date of this notice. The Director of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR) may hold a public hearing should there be a significant degree of public interest. The Highlands Falls Community Association (91 Falls Drive West, Highlands, NC 28741) requested renewal of NPDES permit NC0059552 for the Highlands Falls Country Club septic tank/sandfilter system WWTP in Macon County. This permitted facility discharges treated domestic wastewater to an unnamed tributary to the Cullasaja River (Ravenel Lake) in the Little Tennessee River Basin. Currently, fecal coliform, total residual chlorine, and ammonia nitrogen are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this portion of the watershed. Currently, BOD, ammonia nitrogen, enterococci, dissolved oxygen. and total residual chlorine are water quality limited.
