N.C. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INTENT TO ISSUE NPDES WASTEWATER DISCHARGE PERMIT # NC0034860.

Public comment or objection to the draft permit is invited. All comments received by March 2, 2026, will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.

Permit Application 
Schneider Mills WWTP, 1170 NC Highway 16 North, Taylorsville, NC 28681, has requested a renewal of NPDES wastewater permit (NC0034860) for its existing wastewater treatment and conventional water treatment plants located in Alexander County. The facility discharges process wastewater, air conditioning condensate, cooling tower blowdown, domestic wastewater, stormwater wastewater, and filter backwash wastewater to Muddy Fork Creek, class C water in the Catawba River Basin. Some parameters are water quality limited. The location of the following outfalls and instream monitoring points are:

The location of the outfalls and instream monitoring points are as follows, as indicated on the Facility Map:
Outfall 001: Latitude 35°56’12” N, Longitude 81°11’28” W;
Outfall 002: Latitude 35°56’19” N, Longitude 81°11’27” W;
Upstream Monitoring Point: Latitude 35°56’23” N, Longitude 81°11’27” W;
Downstream Monitoring Point: Latitude 35°56’03.0” N, Longitude 81°11’29” W.
