The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Coastal Management (DCM) hereby gives notice that public review and comment is invited on the below proposed federal action.

To ensure compliance with the Coastal Zone Management Act, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps, is requesting concurrence with a Federal Consistency Determination for maintenance dredging of Mile Hammock Bay and its entrance channel at Camp Lejeune in Onslow County, North Carolina. The proposed project includes dredging of the existing navigation basin and channel, rehabilitation of an existing upland confined dredged material placement facility, and placement of dredged material within the existing upland disposal area to support ongoing military navigation and hovercraft operations.

The State’s review of the submitted federal consistency determination request will determine if the proposed project in Onslow is consistent with the enforceable policies of North Carolina’s Coastal Management Program.

A more thorough description of the proposed federal actions may be examined in the Related Information section of this page.

Please submit written comments by June 29, 2026, to Federal Consistency Coordinator, 400 Commerce Avenue, Morehead City, NC 28557, or by email to federalconsistencycomments@deq.nc.gov.
