Public Hearing on draft permit for Enviva Pellets Northampton facility on Aug. 20

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) will host a public meeting and public hearing on Tuesday, August 20, on a draft permit for Enviva Pellets Northampton, LLC.  The facility has applied to modify the existing permit to install air pollution control equipment and be reclassified as a minor stationary source once the controls are operational. The facility has also requested an increase in production to 781,255 ovens dried tons per year. 
 
The Division of Air Quality will hold the public meeting and public hearing at the Northampton County High School. Interested parties will have the opportunity to ask questions during the public meeting that begins at 6:30 p.m., and provide written or oral comment during the hearing that will begin at 7 p.m.

The public comment period on this draft permit begins on July 19, 2019, and ends at 5 p.m. on August 23, 2019. Comments can be submitted via email to daq.publiccomments@ncdenr.gov. Please type “Enviva Northampton. 18A” in the subject line.

This facility's application was reviewed by DAQ to determine compliance with air pollution regulations. The results of that review led to a preliminary determination that the project could be approved, and the air permit issued, if certain permit conditions are met.
 
DAQ will consider all public comments and other available information about the permit before deciding whether to issue the final permit, deny the permit or issue it with amended conditions.
