Deadline approaching for applications for projects to be funded by Volkswagen Settlement

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality is accepting applications for Diesel Bus and Vehicle projects that significantly reduce emissions and for Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) DC Fast Charge Infrastructure projects. The application period for the first round of funding under the Volkswagen Settlement program closes in two weeks on September 30, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.

The applications and requests for proposals (RFPs) detailing eligible projects are posted on the division website along with Frequently Asked Questions for each program.

Under the Diesel Bus and Vehicle Program:

  • $24.5 million is available
  • 40% is allocated for school bus replacement
  • Projects can be submitted by local, state and tribal governments, public or nonprofit organizations or eligible public-private partnerships

Under the DC Fast Charge program:

  • $3.4 million is available for the installation of ZEV Charging Infrastructure
  • Projects in designated corridors will receive highest priority to expand the state’s charging infrastructure network
  • Projects can be submitted by eligible businesses, incorporated nonprofits, and state, local, tribal or municipal government agencies
