The NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) officially opened its new Reedy Creek campus this week, offering new capabilities for staff, researchers and the public.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, DEQ held a ribbon-cutting event at the new site, 4407 Reedy Creek Road in West Raleigh. The space will include offices for the Department’s lab staff, Raleigh Regional Office staff, and a new training and hearing room that will hold public meetings beginning this fall.
“These new state-of-the-art facilities will advance DEQ’s work to safeguard North Carolina’s air, water, land and public health,” said DEQ Secretary Reid Wilson. “The improved lab space underscores our commitment to using science as the foundation of our decision-making, and the new public space will make it easier for members of the public to provide their input to the department.”
In February 2025, DEQ broke ground on its Reedy Creek Lab Campus renovation and expansion project, making space for the department’s Raleigh Regional Office staff from across divisions. The facility previously only housed staff with the divisions of Air Quality and Water Resources.
The new campus is Green Globes certified, meaning it demonstrates significant achievement in resource efficiency, reduces environmental impacts and improves occupant wellness.
The new, 36,000-square-foot building and 51,000 square feet of lab renovations feature a new 154-capacity multipurpose hearing room for public meetings, energy-efficient walls and windows, a depolluting roofing system, high-efficiency HVAC systems, sustainable building materials, a native plant garden, and rooftop solar panels that will provide 33% of the building’s electricity needs.
Partners in this project include HH Architecture, Dewberry Engineering, Integrated Design, Storr Office Environments, McAdams Engineering and Skanska USA.
