The State Energy Office, within the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), reported that efforts to reduce energy consumption in state-owned buildings have saved taxpayers more than $196 million in the year covering July 2023 to June 2024.  

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will meet Nov. 19 and Nov. 20 at the Beaufort Hotel, 2440 Lennoxville Road, Beaufort. The regular business meeting of the CRC will be called to order at 1 p.m. on Nov. 19 and will resume at 9 a.m. on Nov. 20. A public input and comment period is scheduled for 9:05 a.m. on Nov. 20. At the chair’s discretion, comments may be limited to 3 minutes per person. The public may attend the CRC meeting in person or join online.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management (DCM) is accepting public comment on a request for review of a federal consistency submission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) associated with the proposed Wilmington Harbor 403 Navigation Project. The public may comment in writing or at an in-person public hearing scheduled for Nov. 17, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission will meet Nov. 19-20 at the Holiday Inn Resort Lumina, 1706 N. Lumina Avenue, Wrightsville Beach, N.C. 28480. The meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed on YouTube.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve will hold fall local advisory committee meetings Nov. 5 - 18 for the following reserve sites. All meetings are open to the public.

The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission and North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources will hold public hearings on Dec. 4, 9 and 11 to hear public comment on the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Town of Fuquay-Varina's Interbasin Transfer Certificate request.

The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission will meet Nov. 12-13 in the Ground Floor Hearing Room of the Archdale Building in Raleigh. Members of the public may attend in-person or join the meeting by computer or phone. 

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Marine Fisheries will hold three meetings in the coming weeks to give members of the charter/for-hire community an opportunity to share their perspectives on challenges facing the industry.

New fishing reporting requirements are just a month away — beginning Dec. 1 — and North Carolina’s two fisheries management agencies continue efforts to get the word out, as the requirements impact both commercial and recreational fishermen.
