State officials will host a public hearing on November 19 in Wentworth to gather comments on the application for water quality certification submitted to the N.C. Division of Water Resources (DWR) by Mountain Valley, LLC.

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, along with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service acting as Natural Resource Trustees, have released the draft restoration plan and environmental assessment that identifies proposed projects to restore natural resources damaged from releases at the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. Superfund site in Navassa.

Fayetteville Public Works Commission’s will use the funding to support the participation of 10 eligible households in their PWC Community Solar Weatherization Pilot project. Fayetteville’s model operates as a prepaid subscription with accrued interest over the project life to further support the project.

State environmental officials today recognized Pfizer, located in Sanford, for its outstanding environmental performance. Michael S. Regan, Secretary of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, presented company officials with a plaque recognizing the facility as a 2019 Environmental Steward – one of only 31 facilities in North Carolina to earn the coveted designation for a commitment to superior environmental performance.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is investigating the discharge of 1,4 dioxane reported by the City of Greensboro.  According to city officials, the chemical came from Shamrock Environmental Corporation. However, the discharge permit for the pretreatment program is held by the City of Greensboro and DEQ is pursuing appropriate enforcement for all identified permit violations.

The Coastal Resources Commission Science Panel will meet at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Craven County Cooperative Extension Office, 300 Industrial Drive, New Bern.

A public hearing on oceanfront erosion rates scheduled for Oct. 8 in Ocracoke has been postponed due to ongoing impacts from Hurricane Dorian. The meeting will be rescheduled, and details will be announced later.
