The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries today released the 2021 Fishery Management Plan Review.

State Announces Record $789.4M for Drinking Water and Wastewater Project Funding Statewide

Governor Roy Cooper announced today that communities statewide will receive a record $789.4 million in water and wastewater infrastructure funding to help pay for 385 projects statewide, including 140 construction projects.

An advisory against swimming was posted today at a sound-side site in Carteret County, where state recreational water quality officials found bacteria levels in the water that exceed the state’s and Environmental Protection Agency’s recreational water quality standards.

DEQ reviewing updated volume estimate in Colonial Pipeline fuel release

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is reviewing an updated volume estimate submitted today by Colonial Pipeline Company under the terms of the 2022 Consent Order. According to the document submitted today, Colonial estimates a volume of two million gallons of fuel released in the Oehler Nature Preserve near Huntersville, making it the largest onshore fuel spill in the nation.
