A state environmental panel has granted Union County a certificate to transfer a maximum of 23 million gallons of water a day from the Yadkin River Basin to the Rocky River Basin to meet Union County's projected water demands through 2050.

Staff in the N.C. Division of Water Resources have honored 49 water treatment plants for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards.

RALEIGH — The N.C. Division of Coastal Management is extending the deadline until April 21 to apply for grant funding for projects during fiscal year 2017-18. The division recently announced the availability of $100,000 in grants to local governments in 20 coastal counties.

The. N.C. Drought Management Advisory Council will hold its annual meeting April 6 in Raleigh to discuss the state’s dry conditions and what North Carolinians could expect in the coming months.

The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission’s Science Panel will meet March 29 in New Bern to review inlet shoreline change rates and to discuss methodologies used to update inlet hazard areas.

Federal, state and local officials will meet in Mebane this week for a workshop aimed at finding ways to help improve the quality of life in economically disadvantaged communities.        The Community Solutions Workshop will be Friday and Saturday at the Mebane Arts & Community Center, 622 Corregidor St. The workshop is being organized by the West End Revitalization Association, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality.

Several State Government Complex buildings were impacted by the five-alarm fire in downtown Raleigh on the night of March 16. Affected buildings are expected to resume normal operations on Monday, March 20. The Department of Administration’s Facility Management Division today conducted walk-through inspections of each state government building in the vicinity of the fire to ensure safety.
