The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is accepting public comment on a draft air quality permit for Lawndale Recycling in Cleveland County.The proposed facility plans to burn resinated (treated) wood, construction and demolition wood, and chemically untreated wood pallets to generate electricity to recycle post-industrial biomass and plastic materials.

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission will meet in-person May 22-24 at the Beaufort Hotel, 2440 Lennoxville Road, Beaufort, N.C. 28516. The meeting will also be livestreamed on YouTube.

The final permit was updated from the draft version to include more restrictive limits for certain pollutants and a limit on the plant’s maximum sewage treatment capacity.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) has awarded $1.11 million in grants for projects that will reduce air pollution from diesel-powered mobile sources.Mobile sources are any type of vehicle that can pollute the air, including automobiles, trucks, buses, locomotives, motorcycles, off-road vehicles, construction equipment and lawnmowers. DAQ awards Mobile Source Emissions Reduction Grants every year for projects to replace, retrofit or repair diesel vehicles and reduce emissions.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management (DCM) is now accepting public comments on the Coastal Resources Commission Science Panel’s draft Sea Level Rise update. Public comments will be accepted until July 3, 2024, at 5 p.m.
