DEQ accepting applications for funds to help coastal communities with storm damage

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is accepting project applications for funding to help coastal cities and towns in North Carolina recover from hurricane damage. The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. on Jan. 24.

More than 220,000 Striped Bass released into the Cape Fear River

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Marine Fisheries and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Edenton National Fish Hatchery have joined together to enhance the Striped Bass population in the lower Cape Fear River in hopes of boosting natural reproduction in the waterway.

Public hearing to be held Dec. 17 on Lear Corp.’s wastewater discharge permit

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources will hold a hearing on Dec. 17 to hear public comment on the proposed renewal of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for Lear Corp.’s industrial textile facility near Kenansville. The permit regulates pollutants discharged in the facility’s wastewater.

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will meet Nov. 13- 14 at the Ocean Isle Beach Town Hall, 111 Causeway Dr., Ocean Isle Beach. The public may attend the CRC meeting in-person or watch online.

Marine Fisheries Commission to meet Nov. 20-22 in Emerald Isle

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission will meet in person Nov. 20-22 at the Islander Hotel & Resort, 102 Islander Drive, Emerald Isle, NC 28594. The meeting will also be livestreamed on YouTube.

NC Mining Commission, rules committee to meet this month

The North Carolina Mining Commission and its rules committee are scheduled to hold meetings this month, which will be available to the public in Raleigh or online. 

State to hold hearing, accept comment on amendments to wastewater treatment capacity rules

The Environmental Management Commission (EMC) is accepting public comment on proposed amendments to rules governing wastewater capacity for treatment plants and new dwelling units, as required by laws passed by the N.C. General Assembly in 2023.

North Carolina sees drought, widespread abnormally dry conditions

The North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council has classified most of the state, or parts of 89 counties, as abnormally dry (D0 conditions), while 11 northeastern counties are now in Moderate Drought (D1), according to the latest advisory released Thursday.
