Leaders of the recycling and materials management industry gathered in Raleigh today for the first meeting of the Secretary’s Circular Economy Council. The mission of the group convened by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality is to provide guidance on how North Carolina can create a more resilient materials management system, strengthen the economy and protect the environment. Members of the Council include leaders from across the industry who will collaborate on innovative solutions, such as business and infrastructure development.

The N.C. Source Water Collaborative, a statewide drinking water protection group, has announced Catawba-Wateree Water Management Group as the winner of an annual awards program recognizing individuals and organizations that protect sources of public drinking water.

The North Carolina Oil and Gas Commission will meet in the Ground Floor Hearing Room of the Archdale Building, 512 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh NC 27603, on May 2, 2023. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m.

Air quality across much of eastern North Carolina is under Code Orange, Code Red or Code Purple alerts due to smoke and ash from the active wildfire in the Croatan National Forest.

At the chair’s discretion, comments may be limited to three minutes per person. The Coastal Resources Advisory Council (CRAC) will meet at 3 p.m. on April 25 at the same location. Both meetings are open to the public.

The Division of Marine Fisheries is hosting a series of public outreach meetings to provide updates and gather input on the development and implementation of an automated system that will be used to schedule observer trips for the estuarine anchored gill-net fishery in North Carolina.

The Division of Air Quality assessed a $70,755 penalty against World Cat Greenville for air quality violations.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) will hold a public hearing on May 23, 2023, for the proposed renewal of the City of Asheboro’s wastewater permit. 

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing on proposed shellfish leases in Carteret County at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 23. The hearing will be held in-person at the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries’ Central District Office, 5285 Highway 70 West, Morehead City and by WebEx.
