The North Carolina Ambient Lake Monitoring Program (ALMP) originated under the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Lakes Program and is designed to identify long term trends in water quality for lakes and reservoirs across North Carolina. The water quality data collected is used to calculate the state of nutrient enrichment (trophic state) and determine if lakes meet their designated use(s). Lakes are sampled by river basin on a five-year rotation according to the Division of Water Resources basin sampling schedule. Lakes of 10 acres or greater, that have either public access and/or are used as a drinking supply qualify for sampling metrics. This document is the 2024 ALMP Report for the Hiwassee River Basin.
