Polluted Area Proclamations

Polluted area proclamations include temporary closures and re-openings to shellfish harvest as a result of bacteriological water quality, as well as changes in descriptions of permanently closed areas due to Sanitary Survey findings.

PA-10-2025

This proclamation returns the following area to normal closure boundaries: New River

Effective Date: Shellfish reopenings effective at sunrise, Friday, May 2, 2025.

PA-9-2025

This Proclamation closes the following area in Onslow County:  All those waters in New River upstream of the Highway 172 Bridge. 

Effective Date: Shellfish Temporary Closures effective 8:30 A.M., Thursday, April 24, 2025.

PA-8-2025

This proclamation returns the following area to normal closure boundaries: Ward Creek.

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries: Stump Sound, Alligator Bay, Newport River, and North River.

PA-6-2025

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries: Tubbs Inlet, Ocean Isle Beach, Lockwoods Folly River, White Oak River, a portion of Newport River, Core Creek, a portion of North River, Sleepy Creek, Jarrett Bay, Oyster Creek, and Nelson Bay.

Effective Date: Shellfish reopenings effective at sunrise, Saturday, March 22, 2025.

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries: A portion of Stump Sound, Chadwick Bay, Salliers Bay, Freeman Creek, Bear Creek, Queens Creek, a portion of Newport River, Whitehurst Creek, and Brett Bay.
