The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources will hold a public hearing on Oct. 10 in Salisbury as part of a comment period on a proposal to reclassify waters in the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin. Written comments will also be accepted until Oct. 14.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) is accepting comment on a request to set interim maximum allowable concentrations, or IMACs, for eight per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater. 

Public notice is being given for the proposed revision to the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin Rule, 15A NCAC 02B .0309, related to the the proposed reclassification of portions of the Yadkin River, South Yadkin River and associated tributaries to WS-IV Critical Area, WS-IV Protected Area, in the Yadkin Pee-Dee River Basin.

This facility discharges into Deep River (Randleman Lake) in the Cape Fear River Basin. Currently, total residual chlorine (TRC) is water quality limited. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources (DWR) advises the public to avoid contact with green or blue water in parts of the Chowan River in Chowan and Bertie counties due to an algal bloom that has lingered in the area since Aug. 16. The bloom has been observed from near the community of Rockyhock to below the U.S. 17 bridge over the Chowan River near Edenton.

Nine educators were the first cohort of a new virtual education program by NC Stream Watch, an outreach and education program of the Division of Water Resources (DWR). The program offers information on water resource management. In addition, at the completion of the program, participating educators get access to a North Carolina science standards-aligned curriculum for teaching about water quality, quantity and the importance of conservation.
