Public Comment Period Begins for Draft Solid Waste Permit (new landfill unit) at Wilson County C&D Landfill

-

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Solid Waste Section has prepared draft Solid Waste Permit - Permit Approval to Construct, 9809-CDLF-2004, approving new landfill unit Area 2, at the Wilson County Construction and Demolition Debris (C&D) Landfill. Area 2 consists of 17.2 acres, would have a volume of 1.5 million cubic yards, and an expected life of 42 years. Existing Area 1 at the site consists of 10.5 acres, with a volume of 0.5 million cubic yards, and is close to final capacity.

In accordance with North Carolina General Statute 130A-294(a3)(1)(b)&(c), an increase of 10 percent or more of a landfill’s approved volume requires a new permit. This permit action would not increase the property boundaries of the existing landfill and would not change the service area or the amount of waste received per day.

A 45-day public comment period regarding this draft permit begins on July 5, 2022, and ends at 5 p.m. on August 19 2022. Comments should be submitted in writing to Donna Wilson, by email at donna.wilson@ncdenr.gov or by mail at the following address.
