Public Notice of Availability of the DRAFT 2020 303(d) List and Integrated Report

Every two years, states are required by Section 303(d) of the federal Clean Water Act to list those streams, rivers and other bodies of water that do not meet water quality standards and require development of a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL). States must report this list to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) every even numbered year. The N.C. Division of Water Resources has released the draft 2020 North Carolina 303(d) List and Integrated Report and is requesting public comment. The draft 303(d) List, draft Integrated Report, listing methodology, data, and additional information can be accessed on the website: https://deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/water-resources/planning/modeling-as…. The draft 303(d) list and Integrated Report may be modified based on the comments received. The final North Carolina 2020 303(d) list will be posted after EPA approval.

DWR is also seeking input into which specific 303(d) listed waters should be prioritized for TMDL or TMDL Alternative Development over the next ten years. Typically, higher priority waters are those where willing stakeholders are already implementing restoration activities and/or there is existing knowledge of known stressors in the watershed. The comment period will last for 60 days.

Comments must be submitted no later than April 2, 2021 to: TMDL303dComments@ncdenr.gov. For specific listing questions or to request an assessment fact sheet for a specific waterbody email: TMDL303dComments@ncdenr.gov.
