Dinner and a movie about living shorelines

Raleigh
Feb 2, 2017

The state’s coastal agency is hosting four free events that will include dinner and a movie about shoreline stabilization.

The events are being held for marine contractors and other professionals to learn more about living shorelines.

Living shorelines are erosion control methods that include using native materials, such as marsh plantings and oyster shells. They can also include stone sills and wooden breakwaters. Unlike bulkheads or other vertical erosion control structures, living shorelines maintain existing connections between upland, intertidal, and aquatic areas. These connections are necessary to protect water quality and coastal habitats.

All events are from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following dates and locations:

  • Thursday, Feb. 23 at Katy’s Grill and Bar, 1054 South College Road in Wilmington
  • Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Fish Hook’s Café, 231 E Main Street in Belhaven
  • Thursday, March 2 at the Beaufort at NOAA Lab Auditorium, 101 Pivers Island Road in Beaufort
  • Monday, March 6 at the Currituck County Center Auditorium, 120 Community Way in Barco
