Another 86 electric vehicle charging ports will be funded with rebates from the N.C. Volkswagen Settlement. The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) awarded a final $290,184 in rebates to private and public organizations for the installation of new Level 2 charging ports. The awards include chargers at apartment complexes, workplaces, parking decks, town centers and other sites, many of which will be open to the public. 

An advisory against swimming was posted today at a sound-side site in Dare County, where state recreational water quality officials found bacteria levels in the water that exceed the state’s and Environmental Protection Agency’s recreational water quality standards.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries is looking for commercial and recreational fishermen, scientists, and other interested parties to sit on the Striped Mullet Fishery Management Plan Advisory Committee.

The nomination was submitted on behalf of the Beaufort Citizens Alliance to consider property in the Town of Beaufort for designation as a Natural or Cultural Resource AEC.

The North Carolina Mining Commission will meet in Raleigh on May 10, 2023, beginning at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend in person, by computer or phone. The Commission’s Committee on Rules Readoption will meet at 1:30 p.m. on May 5 to discuss comments received during a spring public comment period. This meeting will be held on Microsoft Teams.

Leaders of the recycling and materials management industry gathered in Raleigh today for the first meeting of the Secretary’s Circular Economy Council. The mission of the group convened by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality is to provide guidance on how North Carolina can create a more resilient materials management system, strengthen the economy and protect the environment. Members of the Council include leaders from across the industry who will collaborate on innovative solutions, such as business and infrastructure development.

Ten North Carolina recycling companies received a total of $442,500 in business development grant funding from the Department of Environmental Quality's (DEQ) Recycling Business Assistance Center (RBAC). The grants are projected to create 135 jobs and generate an investment of more than $1.66 million in recycling infrastructure while reducing the state’s dependence on landfill disposal.
