The North Carolina Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is requesting public comment on the methyl bromide report provided to the Secretaries’ Science Advisory Board. The Division of Air Quality is asking the Science Advisory Board to recommend an Acceptable Ambient Level (AAL) for the use of methyl bromide in log fumigation.  The 30-day comment period will be open until March 27, 2019.

Today, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and other parties that signed the consent order made public last week appeared in Superior Court before Judge Douglas Sasser. The judge approved the order in its entirety, which will mean real relief for people near the Chemours plant and in the Cape Fear River Basin. Downstream, reductions in PFAS/GenX will continue due to the order.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a meeting on three general permits for animal operations on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the Statesville Civic Center in Statesville, NC at 6 p.m. Doors open and registration begins at 5:30 p.m. The three permits are the Swine General Permit, the Cattle General Permit, and the Wet Poultry General Permit. 

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality today filed a Revised Consent Order in Bladen County Superior Court. DEQ has asked the court to enter the order, which will hold the Chemours Company FC, LLC accountable for PFAS contamination, including GenX, in the Cape Fear Region. The order is a critical step to provide relief to people around the Fayetteville Works facility and to communities downstream.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has released the state Greenhouse Gas Inventory requested by Governor Roy Cooper’s Executive Order 80. The inventory contains a detailed accounting of greenhouse gases from human activity in key source categories from 1990 to 2017, including both emissions and reductions. 

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) will host a public meeting and public hearing on Monday, February 18, on a draft permit for the Chemours Company to install and operate a thermal oxidizer/scrubber system for emission control at their Fayetteville Works Facility. The system will significantly reduce the emissions of PFAS, GenX and other pollutants coming from the facility.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality will hold a series of stakeholder engagement workshops for the development of the state’s Clean Energy Plan.  The first workshop will be held on February 25 in Raleigh.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality today announced that A. Stanley “Stan” Meiburg, Ph.D., has assumed chairmanship of the state’s Environmental Management Commission (EMC). The commission is responsible for adopting rules for the protection, preservation and enhancement of the state's air and water resources.  

The N.C. Division of Water Resources is accepting proposals for grant funds to implement watershed restoration plans to restore waterways impaired by nonpoint source pollution. The state expects to receive $1.2 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for competitive funding of projects under Section 319(h) of the Clean Water Act during the 2019 grant cycle.
