DEQ Recognizes “America Recycles Day” and Highlights NC’s Circular Economy

RALEIGH – In recognition of America Recycles Day, DEQ Secretary Elizabeth S. Biser and members of the Secretary’s Circular Economy Council are highlighting the state’s recycling infrastructure with a focus on moving toward a more circular economy.

Comments Accepted for Anson Gas Producers Draft Air Quality Permit

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is accepting public comment on a draft Title V air quality permit for Anson Gas Producers, LLC.

Comments will be accepted until Dec. 31, 2023, at 5 p.m.

Public advised to avoid algal bloom near Bay Tree Lake in Bladen County

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources (DWR) advises the public to avoid contact with green or blue water in a canal near Bay Tree Lake in Bladen County due to an algal bloom that has lingered in the area since Oct. 27.

DEQ reaches settlement in Wake Stone litigation

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality has reached a settlement agreement with Wake Stone Corporation regarding the Triangle Quarry Mining Permit

Severe drought conditions impact 31 counties in North Carolina

North Carolina’s Drought Management Advisory Council (DMAC) has expanded its Severe Drought category (D2 classification) for parts of 31 counties as of Nov. 7. Impacted counties range from Cherokee County in the west to Moore County in the east. Severe Drought is the second category of the four drought classifications based on the U.S. Drought Monitor. Portions of an additional 39 counties in western North Carolina are considered to be in Moderate Drought category (D1 classification).

N.C. Sedimentation Control Commission to meet Nov. 16

The North Carolina Sedimentation Control Commission will meet at 10 a.m. on Nov. 16. Members of the public may attend in-person or join the meeting by computer or phone.

DEQ to Hold Community Meeting about Private Well Sampling Near Sampson County Landfill
