RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is taking two actions requiring Chemours to address GenX and PFAS contamination originating from the Fayetteville Works Facility and affecting private well owners.

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) today filed a Complaint and Motion for Injunctive Relief in Mecklenburg County Superior Court to force Colonial Pipeline to meet their obligations as the responsible party in the state’s largest gasoline spill. As outlined in the complaint, Colonial has failed to provide DEQ with essential information required for the appropriate remediation at the site.

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will meet Nov.10 at the Double Tree by Hilton, 2717 W. Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach. A public input and comment period is scheduled for noon. At the chairwoman’s discretion, comments may be limited to three minutes per person. Prior to the commission meeting, the Coastal Resources Advisory Council (CRAC) will meet at 3 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the same location.

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission will meet in-person Nov. 17-19 at the Islander Hotel & Resort, 102 Islander Dr, Emerald Isle. The commission office will also livestream the meeting online. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17; at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18; and at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 19. In accordance with current guidance to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the chairman asks that everyone attending the meeting wear a mask at all times, except when giving public comment to the commission.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a workshop by webinar Nov. 8-10 with scientists to review the draft assessment of the North Carolina striped mullet stock.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) has issued an air permit for the Carolina Sunrock Burlington North facility and a separate air permit for the Carolina Sunrock Prospect Hill Quarry and Distribution Center facility, both in Caswell County.

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission Commercial Resource Fund Committee and the Funding Committee for the N.C. Commercial Fishing Resource Fund will meet jointly by web conference on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.
