NC DEQ Brownfields Redevelopment Section Awarded a $2MM MARC Grant
*Thanks to RTI International for this map of our target areas!
In Spring 2022, EPA awarded the DEQ Brownfields Redevelopment Section with a $2 million MARC grant to complete site assessments in three historically disadvantaged areas of the state. DEQ will use these grant funds for environmental assessments, reuse planning, community engagement, and grant management.
Five priority sites were identified in the grant application. Other sites will be selected through staff outreach to communities in the identified regions. To learn more and find out if your site qualifies for an assessment, please contact the grant coordinator Joselyn Harriger or by phone at 980-297-4623.
Throughout the five-year grant cycle (closeout by September 2027), the DEQ Brownfields Redevelopment Section will work with our partner communities and contractors to complete these tasks and encourage productive reuse within disadvantaged communities.
In January 2023, we completed the procurement process and selected our three contractors: Hart & Hickman, Terracon and WSP! We're excited to have their expertise in both EPA and the NC Brownfields Redevelopment Section on the team.
Our stakeholder group consists of local governments, regional councils of governments, DEQ staff and others. We meet quarterly to discuss progress reports on grant activities and frequently have guest speakers to talk about additional resources available.
Interested in attending the stakeholder meetings, getting on the newsletter mailing list, or finding out if your community qualifies for an assessment? Would you like someone from the DEQ Brownfields Redevelopment Section to speak at your event? Contact the grant coordinator, Joselyn Harriger at email@example.com or 980-297-4623.
More details related to our priority sites will be coming soon!
