The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Infrastructure is accepting comments until March 30, 2026, on updates to several Intended Use Plans (IUPs) and Project Priority Lists, and until April 13, 2026, for new draft Intended Use Plans and proposed Priority Rating Systems for the State Revolving Fund programs.

The Master Plan Update Committee of the State Water Infrastructure Authority will meet via teleconference on Wednesday, March 18, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. The public may listen to the meeting online or by phone.

Today Governor Josh Stein and Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Reid Wilson visited Cape Fear Public Utility Authority's Sweeney Water Treatment Plant in Wilmington to announce $17 million in grants to protect families from forever chemicals like PFAS and GenX in their drinking water. The funds will be used to extend waterlines to connect more than 300 homes with contaminated wells to CFPUA's supply of safe drinking water. This funding follows the Governor's recent announcement of more than $472 million for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects across 66 counties. As part of that investment, the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority received $17.8 million to support replacement and capacity upgrade of the Southside Water Reclamation Facility.

The Division of Water Infrastructure will conduct its Spring 2026 Funding Application Training Feb. 23 - March 4 at three locations statewide, including a March 4 virtual option that will be recorded and posted on the Division’s website.

Governor Josh Stein announced today that five western North Carolina counties will receive more than $86 million in funding for 14 drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects as part of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency program for disaster-affected states. North Carolina is the first state impacted by Helene to award grants from this program.
