The Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership (APNEP) has published a report showing a net loss in the extent of high-salinity submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) habitat in North Carolina’s sounds between 2006 and 2013. Also known as seagrass or underwater grasses, this valuable natural resource improves water quality, decreases shoreline erosion, and is an essential habitat for many fishery and wildlife species.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a series of workshops by web conference over several days in March with the shrimp fishery management plan advisory committee to review draft Amendment 2 to the Shrimp Fishery Management Plan.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) Division of Air Quality has awarded $1,335,020 in grants for projects to reduce air pollution from diesel-powered mobile sources. The projects will result in 21 vehicle replacements, with estimated reductions of 8.2 tons of NOx and 285 tons of greenhouse gases per year. Mobile sources are any type of vehicle that can pollute the air, including automobiles, trucks, buses, locomotives, motorcycles, off-road vehicles, construction equipment and lawnmowers.

The Atlantic Coastal Cooperative Statistics Program’s Citizen’s Science Group is asking fishermen and others to answer a questionnaire that will help in the development of a customizable mobile application that will allow fishermen to share information about the fish they catch.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries Standard Commercial Fishing License Eligibility Board will meet by teleconference at 10:30 a.m. April 9. The board will consider license applications that are deemed complete and submitted by March 10.
