Celebrating
200 Years of Marine Fisheries Management and Conservation
On December 30, 1822, the North Carolina General Assembly passed a law titled An Act to Prevent the Destruction of Oysters, and for Other Purposes, in the State that restricted oyster harvest gear and prohibited the export of North Carolina oysters to other states.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries manages the marine and estuarine fisheries and habitats for the benefit and health of all North Carolinians. To effectively achieve this mission, it is imperative that the public have access to updated information on the state’s coastal marine resources and the issues impacting them.
