New Septage Management Firm Operator
Septage Management Firms in North Carolina need a permit from the Division of Waste Management prior to beginning operation. "Septage management firm" means a person engaged in the business of pumping, transporting, storing, treating or disposing septage.
The permitting requirements apply to the following:
- Pumpers, including those involved in:
- Placing chemical or portable toilet
- Portable restroom trailers
- Managing septage generated from properties that they own, lease, or manage as part of a business, such as mobile homes, mobile home parks, restaurants, and other residential and commercial property
- Removing septage, and other waste materials or spent media from wastewater systems permitted by the Department of Health and Human Service
- Pumping or handling septage from domestic septic tank
- Pumping or handling grease septage which is material pumped from grease interceptors, separators, traps, etc.
- Septage Detention and Treatment Facilities (SDTF)
- Septage Land Application Sites (SLAS)

| Vehicle Inspections | Truck(s) will need the lettering on both sides of the truck(s); the lettering height must be at least three inches on ALL letters / numbers: Other inspection requirements can be found in section .0835 of the Septage Management Rules 15A NCAC 13B .0800 - .0846 Once the truck is properly lettered, you must contact the regional inspector for your area to set up a truck inspection. |
