New Septage Management Firm Operator
Septage Management Firms in North Carolina need a permit from the Division of Waste Management prior to beginning operation. "Septage management firm" means a person engaged in the business of pumping, transporting, storing, treating or disposing septage.
The permitting requirements apply to persons:
- Placing chemical or portable toilets
- Managing septage generated from properties that they own, lease, or manage as part of a business, such as mobile homes,mobile home parks, restaurants, and other residential and commercial property
- Removing septage, and other waste materials or spent media from wastewater systems permitted by the Department of Health and Human Service
- Pumping or handling septage from domestic septic tanks
- Pumping or handling grease septage which is material pumped from grease interceptors, separators, traps, etc.

All new septage operators in North Carolina must complete the following steps before their first Permit to Operate a Septage Management Firm is issued in the state of North Carolina:

Permit Application and Payment |

The NCS Permit number and inspector for your region will be assigned after the application and permit fee have been received at the Raleigh Central Office. Downloadable Firm Permit Application Payment needs to be made to the “N.C. Division of Waste Management" The permit fees: New Firms will need to submit a paper copy of the completed application and the appropriate permit fee. This needs to be mailed to: Attn: Lee Sorrell

Vehicle Inspection |

Trucks(s) will need the lettering on both sides of the truck(s); the lettering height must be at least three inches on ALL letters/numbers.
Other inspection requirements can be found in in section.0835 of the Septage Management Rules 15A NCAC 13B .0800 - .0846 Once the truck is properly lettered, you must contact the regional inspector for your area to setup a truck inspection. |
