Annual Weatherization Assistance Program
The Annual Weatherization Assistance Program provides free weatherization services to income-eligible households. Services may include insulation, air sealing, heating and cooling system repair or replacements, health and safety repairs, and other energy efficiency upgrades.
How it works
Identify your local weatherization service provider using the Find Your Agency Tool.
Apply with the weatherization provider.
The weatherization provider reviews applications and determines eligibility.
The weatherization provider conducts a home energy assessment (audit).
The weatherization provider prepares a scope of work and installs energy conservation measures and health and safety measures.
A final inspection is conducted to make certain all projects are complete and working properly, and the client is satisfied and properly educated.
Eligibility
Families with incomes below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines or those receiving cash assistance payments under Work First or Supplemental Security Income are eligible for the NC Weatherization Assistance Program. The program prioritizes assisting the elderly, individuals with disabilities, families with children, high energy users, and energy-burdened households.
Annual Weatherization Documents
These documents are required to be updated and approved annually by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
Program Funding
DEQ administers the Weatherization Assistance Program with funds from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This program also includes additional resources – the Heating and Air Repair and Replacement Program and the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, both of which are state-funded by the NC Department of Health and Human Services.
The Weatherization Assistance Program is administered by the State Energy Office in partnership with local weatherization agencies.
