Striped Bass Commercial Fishing Information

Harvest Tags:

To possess, buy, sell, or offer for sale Striped Bass taken from areas opened by the Division of Marine Fisheries proclamation or imported from other states dealers are required to affix a striped bass harvest tag through the mouth and gill cover, or in the case of striped bass imported from another state, a similar tag issued for striped bass in the state of origin. Division Striped Bass tags shall not be bought, sold, offered for sale, or transferred. Tags shall be obtained at the Division offices listed below.  

Striped Bass commercial fisheries occurring in the Atlantic Ocean and Albemarle Sound Management Area are quota monitored fisheries. A Striped Bass dealer permit is required for all dealers participating in these fisheries. The requirements for commercial striped bass harvest tags are provided in the Application for Quota Monitoring Dealer Permits. The Central Southern Management Area (CSMA) is designated as all internal coastal, and joint and contiguous inland waters south of a line beginning at a point 35° 48 .3693’N - 75° 43 .7232’W on Roanoke Marshes Point, running southeasterly to a point 35° 44 .1710’N - 75° 31 .0520’W on the north point of Eagle Nest Bay, to the South Carolina line.

Licensed fish dealers purchasing striped bass from designated management areas which are selected on the permit. Management areas are: the Atlantic Ocean and the Albemarle Sound Management Area.

In order to monitor the quota, the Division of Marine Fisheries needs to know which dealers are going to be participating in the fishery in order to determine who needs to submit daily quota monitoring reports.
